SOCCER BLANKS MILLIKIN TO EXTEND WINNING STREAK
DECATUR, IL - Last season the UW-Eau Claire soccer team did not give up a goal for the first four games but this year's team is on track to repeat that feat after defeating Millikin University 3-0 today. Eau Claire, ranked 12th in the NSCAA/Adidas poll, is now 3-0 on the year. Millikin drops to 0-2. While Liz Weirick (Jr.-Kenosha/Tremper) and Allie Rivard (So.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) both spent a half in goal, the defense in front of them put the clamps down and allowed only two shots the entire game with one being on goal. In three games Eau Claire has allowed nine shots and three shots on goal. The Eau Claire offense had 30 shots and three goals in today's game alone. Amy Smith So.-Bloomington, MN/Jefferson) got the game rolling 3:25 into the affair after taking a Liz Kooistra (So.-Lakeville, MN) pass to put the Blugolds up early. Maria Iaizzo (Sr.-White Bear Lake, MN) scored her third goal in as many games off a deflection 50:33 into the second. Iaizzo had the second most shots on the day with six. Jessica Millard (So.-Madison/La Follette) led with seven. She also fed a pass less then two minutes later to Smith who put in her second goal of the day and made the game 3-0 Blugolds. The squad remains in Illinois to face Illinois Wesleyan University at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow in Bloomington. Eau Claire-Millikin Box Score - PH -
