JOHNSON RECEIVES SECOND TEAM ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA HONORS

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – UW-Eau Claire men’s track and field member Sam Johnson (Jr.-Deer Park, Wis./Amery) has received College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country Second Team College Division honors, officials announced today.

With the selection, Johnson becomes the 24th individual in school history to be selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-American and only the second in men’s track and field history. The entire Blugold Athletics program has now had at least one CoSIDA Academic All-American selection in each of the last nine seasons, dating back to the 1999-2000 season.

Johnson, who is majoring in Physics and currently holds a 3.93 cumulative GPA, finished in sixth place at NCAA Division III Indoor Championship in the weight throw with a distance of 59-4 ¾ this season. He had the longest throw in conference and fifth longest in NCAA Division III with distance of 59-8 ¼ heading into the national meet. Johnson was also named conference athlete of the week once during the indoor season.
