MEN’S TRACK COMPETES AT POINTER QUALIFIER

STEVENS POINT, WI – The UW-Eau Claire men’s track and field team won one event and achieved two NCAA provisional qualifying marks as the Blugolds competed at the Pointer Qualifier held here today at the Multi-Activity Center in the Health Enhancement Center.

The Blugolds went 1-2 in the 200-meter dash led by Nick Kropp (Fr.-Green Bay/Preble) who won the event in a time of 22.22 seconds. Adam Sturgis (Sr.-Bruce) took second place in the 200 clocking in at 22.86 seconds.

Sam Johnson (So.-Deer Park/Amery) finished second in the weight throw with an NCAA provisional toss of 56-2.5 feet. Wes Fischer (So.-Rosemount, MN) finished fourth in the 800-meter run with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:54.83.

Joe Felber (So.-Manitowoc/Lincoln) placed second in the long jump with a leap of 20-3.5 feet. Justin Janke (So.-Black River Falls) advanced to the finals of the 55-meter dash finishing third with a time of 6.64 seconds.

The Blugolds will conclude the 2007 indoor season at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana. Competition will begin Friday, March 9 and conclude Saturday, March 10.
