SWIMMING AND DIVING START SEASON WITH WIN IN COED RELAYS
EAU CLAIRE – The UW-Eau Claire men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams teamed up today to take down UW-Oshkosh in the Midwest Coed Relays by a score of 164-124. The Blugolds only lost one event today, that being the 200-yard freestyle relay. In diving, Sarah Myers (Jr.-Eau Claire/North) and Kenny Ritt (Fr.-Racine/Horlick) won the 1-meter competition with 315.55 points while Donnie Vollmer (So.-Superior) teamed up with Laurel Van Soest (Jr.-Mound/Mound-Westonka) to win the 3-meter boards at 222.00. The butterfly team of Alissa Condra (Sr.-Rhinelander), Matt Schultz (Fr.-Oakdale, MN/North), Missy Kleist (Fr.-Eau Claire/North), and Cale Schmidt-Jackson (Sr.-Duluth, MN/East) won the 400-yard butterfly in 4:06.19. The 100-yard freestyle relay went to Ann Grossklaus (Fr.-Wausau/West), Brett Olsen (Fr.-New Berlin/West Allis Hale), Ane Klomps (Jr.-Rochester, MN/Mayo), and Bill Peterson (So.-Lake Elmo, MN/North St. Paul) in 47.85. Mari Bodensteiner (Fr.-Red Wing, MN), Patrick Finley (So.-Waunakee), Emmie Lee (Jr.-Zimmerman, MN/Elk River), and Nick Peterson (Sr.-Lake Elmo, MN/North St. Paul) took the 400-yard backstroke relay with a 4:03.20 time. Jaclyn Blank (Fr.-Byron, MN), Alex Colborn (Fr.-Rochester, MN/Century), Kris Metje (Fr.-Cape Girardeau, MO/Central), and Emily Viau (Sr.-Apple Valley, MN/Eastview) teamed up in the 800-yard freestyle relay and posted an 8:08.49. Emily Cooper (Jr.-Germantown), Brian Lockwood (So.-DeForest), Melissa Meier (Sr.-Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial), and Bill Peterson swam a 4:50.77 400-yard breaststroke. In the 1700-yard freestyle relay, Klomps, Brian Schwartz (Sr.-Bemidji, MN), Kleist, Nick Peterson, Viau, Finley, Amanda Kroger (Jr.-Shoreview, MN/Mounds View), and Metje pulled off a 17:49.69 marathon. The 400-yard medley relay went to Bodensteiner, Schmidt-Jackson, Emily Diehl, Peter Schultz (So.-Oakdale, MN/North), Condra, Matt Schultz, Grossklaus, and Schwartz in 3:44.34. Diehl, Schmidt-Jackson, Lee and Peter Schultz took the 400-yard medley individual relay in 4:13.05. Viau, Finley, Grossklaus, and Metje were winners in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a 3:40.60 effort. The teams will compete next Friday at Mankato State in their first dual meets.
