FORMER BLUGOLD GOALIE SIGNS WITH PEORIA RIVERMEN OF AHL

PEORIA, IL - Former UW-Eau Claire goaltender Steffan Braunlich has been signed to a professional try-out agreement with the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League (AHL).

That announcement was made Thursday by Kevin McDonald, General Manager of Hockey Operations for the Peoria team that currently is third in the seven-team West Division of the AHL, a 27-team pro league just below the NHL. The Rivermen trail the Chicago Wolves and Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights and stand ahead of the Iowa Stars, Houston Aeros, Milwaukee Admirals and San Antonio Rampage.

Braunlich has appeared in nine games this season for the United Hockey League's Bloomington Prairie Thunder. He had a 2-6 record with a 3.24 goals against average and a .903 saves percentage.

The 6-3, 230-pound native of Los Angeles, California was the Blugold Jeff Jaraczewski MVP last season as well as after the 2003-04 season. During three Blugold seasons between the pipes, Braunlich had a 3.46 goals against average with a .903 saves percentage and a 19-42-6 record.

Braunlich came to Eau Claire after attending Augsburg College and Santa Monica College. He played junior hockey out of high school for the Bozeman (MT) Icedogs and the Fort McMurray Alberta Oil Barons.

Braunlich received his business degree from UW-Eau Claire in management with an entrepreneuership emphasis.
