MEN'S HOCKEY ENDS SEASON WITH A LOSS AGAINST ST. NORBERT

GREEN BAY - The Blugolds could not overcome a 46-19 shot deficit as the UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team fell to the first-ranked Green Knights of St. Norbert 6-2 in the final game of a postseason series here tonight at the Cornerstone Community Center.

The loss ends the Blugolds' season with a record of 1-22-2 while the Green Knights improve to 24-1-2 on the season.

Both teams had trouble getting on the board in the first period but the Green Knights broke the scoreless tie with 3:51 remaining to take a 1-0 lead.

St. Norbert added to the lead in the second period with a power play goal. After two more second period goals, the Blugolds got on the board with a power play goal of their own by Rob Ouimette (So-Iron Bridge, ONT).

Greg Harris (So-Winnipeg, MAN) assisted on the goal by Ouimette and after another goal by the Green Knights scored the Blugolds' second and final goal of the night to pull within three. Phil Cherneski (So-Thomson, MAN) assisted on both of Eau Claire's goals. The Blugolds looked at a 5-2 deficit heading into the third period.

With the scoreboard counting down to the end of the season, the Blugolds could not chip away at the Green Knight lead. Eau Claire fired just five shots on goal in the final period while St. Norbert added a final goal to round out the scoring at 6-2.

Matt Gehr (Sr-New Richmond) finishes the season with the most goals as he totaled 11 on the season. Chris Hunter (Jr-Toronto, ONT/Sir John MacDonald) led the team in points and assists with 22 and 15 respectively.
