MEN'S HOCKEY LOSES GAME ONE TO ST. NORBERT

GREEN BAY - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team remained winless in their last 19 games against St. Norbert College in losing the first game of the two-game series against the top-seeded Green Knights 9-3 here tonight at the Cornerstone Community Center.

The Blugolds jumped out to an early lead when Chip Dunleavy (Littleton, CO/Columbine) took passes from Matt Gehr (Sr.-New Richmond) and Chris Hunter (Jr.-Toronto, ONT/Sir John MacDonald) and scored to give Eau Claire a 1-0 lead. The Blugolds held the Green Knights scoreless for the remainder of the period.

St. Norbert scored three unanswered goals in the second period in 15 shots to take a 3-1 advantage going into the final period.

The Green Knights added another goal 1:25 into the third period to take a 4-1 lead. The Blugolds drew to within two goals on a short-handed from Gehr but could get no closer.

St. Norbert then ran off four goals to increase their lead to 8-2. Gehr added another goal off of passes from Hunter and Dunleavy to bring the score to 8-3. The Green Knights then added another goal to bring the game to its final score.

The Blugolds were outshot by St. Norbert 48-16 with goalie Scott Sutton (Sr.-Thunder Bay, ONT/St. Patricks) stopping 39 of the 48 shots. Eau Claire was whistled for 13 penalties for 26 minutes of penalty time as the Green Knights only committed 10 penalties for 20 minutes.

If the Eau Claire can win or get a tie tomorrow night against St. Norbert, the two teams will play a 20-minute mini-game to determine who moves on to the next round. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
