MEN’S GOLF ANNOUNCES TEAM AWARD WINNERS

EAU CLAIRE – UW-Eau Claire head men’s golf coach Jim Maguire recently announced the team award winners for the 2006-07 season.

The Most Valuable Player Award went to Mike Greer (Sr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear Lake) and Rob Norris (Sr.-St. Paul, MN/Cretin-Derham Hall).

A third team Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-American, Norris averaged 75.7 strokes per round for the Blugolds. He was the individual medalist in the 17-team Lawrence University Viking Invite, a one-day event on April 28. He also captured medalist honors in the 18-team, 54-hole Twin Cities Classic last fall.Norris was the Blugolds’ top finisher in the recent NCAA Division III Championship as he tied for 19th with a 72-hole total of 307. He was the only Blugold to break 80 all four days of the national tournament, firing rounds of 79, 76, 74 and 78.

A GCAA All-Central Region honoree, Greer was the Blugolds’ No. 2 finisher in the national tournament, tying for 30th overall with a four-round total of 311. He carded 18-hole scores of 77, 80, 74 and 80. He was the only Blugold to play all 21 rounds in the team’s 10 meets this year, averaging 75.9 strokes per round.

Mason Milner (Jr.-Onalaska) earned the Most Improved Award. Milner averaged 77.5 strokes per round for Eau Claire in 17 rounds.

The Blugolds finished the season with an overall record of 135-25-4 including a ninth-place finish at the NCAA Division Men’s Golf Championship. It marked the seventh time in the last eight years that the Blugolds have posted a top-10 national finish.
