2004 NCAA DIVISION III WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS QUALIFIERS

INDIANAPOLIS---The NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee announced yesterday the team and individual qualifiers for the 2004 NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships.

In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals must qualify in their respective NCAA regions.

Twenty-four teams of seven women each were selected to participate in the championships. The top teams from each of the eight regions automatically qualified. Additional at-large berths (16) were awarded based on the following formula: The regions with the first 16 finishers in the previous year's championships were awarded the additional berths. No region can receive more than five berths.

Forty-seven individuals were selected to participate in the championships. All regions automatically qualify the first four individuals. Additional at-large berths (15) were awarded to those regions with the first 15 finishers in the previous year's championships.

The University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, will host the 2004 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships, November 20, at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Wisconsin. The women's race will begin at noon Central time.

The teams and individual qualifiers from each region are as follows:

Atlantic Region

Teams: Geneseo State, Ithaca

Individuals: Amy Ruston, Lehman; Jenna Fasulo, The College of New Jersey; Tora Olafsen, Kerry Banazek and Heather Thomas, St. Lawrence; Jodie Schoppmann, Potsdam State; and Trisha Sliker, Rochester Institute of Technology.


Central Region

Teams: Luther, Wartburg, Carleton, and Nebraska Wesleyan.

Individuals: Leah Wurm, St. Benedict; Keidra Anderson, Hamline; Beth Cunningham, Central ( Iowa); and Amy Lyons, Bethel ( Minnesota).


Great Lakes Region

Teams: Denison, Depauw.

Individuals: Shannon McConville and Ellie Fernandez, John Carroll; Tina Pike, Hope; Leah Peelman, Hanover; Dara Ford, Mount Union; Christina McNamara, Kenyon; and Shannon Morris, Oberlin.


Mideast Region

Teams: Allegheny, Dickinson, Elizabethtown and Haverford.

Individuals: Gina Lucrezi, DeSales; Amy Bower, Misericordia; Elisa Pederson, Grove City; Stacey Muchal, Marywood; and Sarah Hobbs, Swarthmore.


Midwest Region

Teams: Washington U. in St. Louis, Wisconsin- La Crosse, Wisconsin- Oshkosh and Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Individuals: Amanda Kuca, Concordia ( Wisconsin); Jesi Christiansen, Wheaton ( Illinois); Marcia Taddy and Jackie Mulrooney, Wisconsin-Platteville; Jessica Griffin and Molly Morrison, North Central ( Illinois); Megan Kielar, Wisconsin-Whitewater; and Erin Kelley, Carroll ( Wisconsin).


New England Region

Teams: Amherst, Colby, Middlebury, Wesleyan ( Connecticut) and Williams.

Individuals: Tracy Bassett, Wellesley; Megan Brousseau, Wheaton ( Massachusetts); Kristina Miner, Trinity ( Connecticut); and Rebecca Ades, Tufts.


South/Southeast Region

Teams: Trinity ( Texas).

Individuals: Phyllis Tuggle, Agnes Scott; Eileen Schilling, Centre; Lindsay Erickson, Washington and Lee; Jennifer Emo, Rhodes; and Amy DiBianca, Emory.


West Region

Teams: Willamette, Colorado College

Individuals: Sara Smith and Shana Shosky, Pacific; Kristi Dickey, Whitworth; Bethany DeVilbiss, Pacific Lutheran; Sierra Witnov, Whitman; Sarah Orzell, Puget Sound; and Anna McLain, George Fox.
