WILLIAMS COLLEGE CLAIMS 2004 WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP
COLFAX - After a fourth place finish one year ago, Williams College (MA) earned the 2004 NCAA Division III Championship with a team score of 110 points while Missy Buttry of Wartburg (IA) repeated as the individual champion here today at the Whitetail Golf Course.
Last year's team champion Middlebury (VT) claimed second place this season with a team score of 129 points while Washington (MO) took third place with 149 points. UW-Oshkosh and Colby College (ME) complete the top five teams, with scores of 174 and 202 respectively.
Leading Williams College to the championship was Jenn Campbell with a third place finish overall in a time of 21:25.3. Campbell took 11th place at last year's national competition. Caroline Cretti finished just one place back of Campbell for Williams, claiming fourth place in a time of 21:26.5. Katie Marsh and Liz Gleason took 23rd and 24th place for the national champs.
Individually, Missy Buttry retains her title as women's champion, repeating her win last season. This year she finished the course in a time of 20:22.0. . It is the second straight season that both the women and men's champion have hailed from Wartburg, as Josh Moen also repeated as men's champ. When the pair accomplished the feat last season, it was the first time in history the two individual champions have came from the same school.
For the second straight year, UW-Oshkosh's Liz
Woodworth finished as the individual runner-up. Woodworth
finished with a time of 20:46.5 while Campbell and Cretti
took third and fourth. Amherst's (MA) Carter Hamill rounds
out the top five individuals, claiming fifth place in a time
of 21:34.4.
