SIVERLING LEAVING UWEC FOR DIVISION I ARKANSAS

UW-Eau Claire men’s basketball assistant coach Matt Siverling has resigned to take an assistant coaching position at the University of Arkansas.

At the Division I school, Siverling will join an entirely new Razorback coaching staff under the direction of John Pelphrey who was just named the head coach in April.

Pelphrey has assembled an entirely new staff at Arkansas many of whom worked under Billy Donovan at two-time defending national champion Florida including Siverling. The Razorbacks, who are members of the Southeast Conference, were selected for the NCAA tournament this past year but lost to USC in the first round and finished with a 21-14 record. They have all of their players returning for the 2007-08 season.

Siverling has been Terry Gibbons’ assistant at UWEC the past three years. The Ladysmith native earned his undergraduate degree in kinesiology from UW-Eau Claire in 2002 and his master’s degree in exercise and sports sciences from the University of Florida in 2004. While an undergraduate at UWEC, Siverling assisted Pat Hammond at Eau Claire North High School and was the Huskies’ head freshmen coach from 2000-02.

Siverling and his wife Lori, a UWEC alum, have one infant daughter. Siverling will be reporting for work in Fayetteville, Arkansas next week.
