BLUGOLD MEN FALL TO WHITEWATER IN OVERTIME

WHITEWATER - The UW-Eau Claire men's basketball team battled UW-Whitewater back and forth throughout the game but couldn't overcome the 48 made free throws by the 22nd ranked Warhawks in losing 84-75 in overtime here tonight at Kachel Gym.

Until overtime the biggest lead held by either team was five by the Blugolds with 17 lead changes and 12 ties. Eau Claire was at a big disadvantage from the line though converting 16 of 21 attempts compared to 48 of 67 for Whitewater.

While the Warhawks spent most of their time at the line the Blugolds spent their time behind the arc attempting a team record 35 three-pointers including 15 from Jason Larson (Sr.-Sugar Land, TX/Stephen F. Austin) and 11 from Dan Archambault (So.-Oshkosh/West).

Larson led the way for the Blugolds scoring 29 points and shooting ten of ten from the free throw line. Andy Witte (Sr.-Madison/Monona Grove) added 18 points on eight of nine shooting and Archambault scored 17 points including a team-high five assists and three steals.

Aubrey Lewis-Byers led Whitewater with 28 points including 18 of 25 from the line. The 25 attempts from Lewis-Byers were the second highest in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history.

Eau Claire was whistled for 38 fouls and had three players foul out while the Warhawks were called for only 19 fouls. For the game the Blugolds shot 40 percent while Whitewater shot 47.2 percent.

Eau Claire will come home to play 14th ranked UW-Oshkosh Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
