STUDENT-ATHLETES SPEND TIME READING TO LOCAL CHILDREN

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Members of the UW-Eau Claire women’s tennis and women’s swimming and diving teams spent Thursday, October 4 at Meadowview Elementary school reading and playing with elementary students.

Eight athletes took part in a camp fire themed reading at an area Elementary school. Members of the swimming and diving and tennis teams read, entertained, and interacted with the students of some of the teachers and parents who were at the Parent Teacher Organization meeting that was taking place that night.

The PTO set up a fake bonfire for the students and athletes. The athletes read stories about camping and fall and played various games with the students to make sure they were all involved and having fun. They ate smores and told stories around the fire.

The children, about 20 in all, seemed very entertained and interested in what each athlete had to say. Each student told their own stories and shared with the athletes their dreams to become collegiate athletes. Jamie Lambrecht, member of the swimming and diving team said one child told her she wanted to grow up and swim for the Blugolds.

Overall, the event was deemed a success by the athletes who agreed that they enjoy being involved with the community.
