THREE BLUGOLDS NAMED WIAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MADISON – UW-Eau Claire women’s basketball guard Heidi Arciszewski (So.-Thorp), women’s track pole vaulter Chelsea Becker (Sr.-Rice Lake) and men’s diver Bryan Dykstra (Jr.-Racine/Horlick) have each been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, it was announced today by WIAC sports information director Matt Stanek. Arciszewski helped the Blugolds take sole possession of second place as they defeated UW-Superior, 72-43, and UW-La Crosse 66-49. Against the Yellowjackets, Arciszewski tallied 15 points and three assists to go along with three rebounds and two steals. In the victory over the Eagles, Arciszewski led all scorers with 19 points, including 10-of-11 free throw attempts, and grabbed six rebounds. For the week, Arciszewski averaged 17.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game making 10-of-18 field goals, three-of-eight three-point field goals and 11-of-13 free throws. Becker earned an automatic qualifying mark in the pole vault for the NCAA championship as UW-Eau Claire finished second in the eight-team Blugold Open on Jan. 19. She won the event after clearing 12-2. Becker’s performance is the best in the NCAA Division III this season. It is the second consecutive week Becker has earned WIAC Field Athlete of the Week honors this season. In his first competition of the season, Dykstra won the one and three-meter diving events as the Blugolds defeated Macalester (MN), 190-33, on Jan. 19. He won the one-meter dive with a score of 271.10 and the three-meter with a mark of 275.35. Dykstra earned qualifying scores in both events for the NCAA Division III championship.
