THREE NAMED WIAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

MADISON - UW-Eau Claire soccer midfielder Emily Meisinger (Jr.-Green Bay/Notre Dame Academy), goalie Liz Weirick (So.-Kenosha/Tremper) and women's tennis player Katie Kuzma (Sr.-Buffalo, MN) were named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, it was announced today by conference sports information director Matt Stanek.

Meisinger recorded two game-winning goals against two regionally-ranked teams during the week. In a 1-0 overtime victory over UW-River Falls on October 4, she scored off a corner kick to hand the Falcons their first loss of the season. In a 1-0 win over Loras (IA) on October 9, Meisinger scored in the 85th minute on a beautiful through ball from Marcia Foltz to upend the Duhawks.

Weirick helped lead the Blugolds to a pair of shutouts over two regionally-ranked teams during the week. She split time with teammate Allie Rivard in goal in both matches and recorded two saves in the first half in a 1-0 overtime victory over UW-River Falls on October 4. Weirick also added a save in the first half in a 1-0 win against Loras (IA) on October 9. UW-Eau Claire has registered a league-best nine shutouts in 12 matches this season, including four consecutive shutouts.

Kuzma went 3-0 during the week at No. 1 singles against conference opponents without losing a set. She defeated UW-River Falls' Megan Knobloch (6-3, 6-3) on October 4, UW-Stevens Point's Cathy Thornburg (6-2, 6-2) on October 7 and UW-Oshkosh's Michelle Baur (6-1, 6-2) on October 8.
