BLUGOLD ATHLETICS TO HELP WITH KATRINA RELIEF AT ST. JOHN'S GAME
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and its Department of Athletics today announced that they are lending a collective hand to relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. UWEC Interim Chancellor Vicki Lord Larson and Athletics Director Scott Kilgallon said University officials wanted to help victims of one of the country's worst natural disasters, and thought that the opening UWEC home football game would prove beneficial given the crowd of five to six thousand fans expected to attend the game. The Blugolds take on St. John's University Saturday, September 3 at Carson Park with a 7:00 p.m. kick-off. Fans attending the game can contribute donations to the cause by looking for Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund containers at each of the stadium gates. The gates open at 5:30 pm and donations will be accepted until the end of the first quarter. UWEC will donate the proceeds to the American Red Cross, Chippewa Valley Chapter. - SK -
