THREE NAMED WIAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

MADISON - UW-Eau Claire women's pole vaulter Stephanie Barnes (Jr.-Sauk City/Sauk Prairie), gymnast Lynn Morris (Sr.-Monticello, IN/Twin Lakes) and wrestler Derek Sikora (Sr.-Neillsville) have all been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, it was announced by conference sports information director Matt Stanek.

Barnes won the pole vault with a NCAA Division III automatic qualifying mark of 12-8 at the seven-team Warren Bowlus Open on February 4. Her mark is the best in NCAA Division III this year and also set a school record.

Morris was the top all-around performer scoring a 36.275 at the four-team Gershon/McClellan Invitational on February 3. She placed second in the beam (9.275), fourth on the bars (8.975), fourth on the floor exercise (8.825) and seventh on the vault (9.200). The Blugolds finished second as a team with 175.400 points.

Sikora was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler after earning the 165-pound title at the 28th annual Blugold Invitational on February 4. Sikora began the weekend with a 10-1 major decision over UW-Oshkosh's Kevin Luedtke in a dual meet. At the invitational, Sikora started the day by defeating Luedtke again, this time winning by pin at 2:21, followed by a 12-3 major decision over UW-La Crosse's Jake Heuston. Sikora would beat Ben Youel of North Central (Ill.) by major decision in the semifinals and advance to the championship match against top-seeded Ryan Volek, the top-ranked wrestler in the nation at 165 pounds. Overtime was needed as Sikora defeated Volek 3-1.
