GYMNASTICS OPENS SEASON WITH A CLOSE LOSS TO WINONA STATE

WINONA, MN – The UW-Eau Claire gymnastics team opened its season tonight with a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual meet loss to Winona State University (MN) by a score of 174.825-169.600 at the McCown Gymnasium.

The Blugolds Theresa Lynch (Jr.-Vadnais Heights, MN/White Bear) had the best all-around score in the meet with a total of 36.300. Lynch also took first place in the uneven parallel bars competition with a score of 9.050. The Blugolds actually took the top three spots in that competition with Samantha Howard (Fr.-St. Paul, MN/Henry Sibley) finishing second with a score of 8.500 and Brittany Adams (Jr.-Maple Grove, MN) placing third with a score of 8.400.

Anna Sutherland (So.-Arden Hills, MN/Roseville) was the top-Blugold finisher in the vault competition with a score of 9.275. Lynch was the top-Blugold finisher in the balance beam competition with a score of 9.175 and the floor exercise with a score of 8.900.

The Blugolds will host the four-team UW-Eau Claire Invite next Friday in the McPhee Physical Education Center. Competition begins at 6 p.m.
