What is RSS and how is it used on our website?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It is a format for syndicating news. When we publish a new story on our site, the file called uwecathletics.xml is updated. If you are using a special program called an RSS aggregator (more info below), you will be alerted that there is a new story on our site. At that time you can read an introduction paragraph and then come to our site to read the complete story. Learn More About RSS

What is an RSS aggregator?

An RSS aggregator is a program that can read RSS feeds from multiple sites and alert the user when the content on any of the sites has changed. What is the benefit of this? A user can "subscribe" to many websites and they do not have to go to the sites to check to see if the content has been updated. Depending on the settings of your RSS aggregator, it will automatically check to see if a site has been updated and then it will download the contents of the new xml file for you to read right on your desktop.

Where can I get an RSS aggregator?

There are many free programs available. Here are three you can download, or search the internet for others if you would like.
    SharpReader (We recommend this one)
    FeedReader
    RssReader
