WICKLUND RECEIVES D3FOOTBALL.COM ALL-AMERICAN HONORS
SALEM, Va. – UW-Eau Claire’s Dave Wicklund (Jr.-Kewaskum, Wis.) was named to the D3football.com All-American third team defense as a safety, Pat Coleman, publisher of D3football.com, announced today. For only the fourth time in the nine year history of the D3football.com All-American team, a Blugold appeared on the list. Brent Tieri was the last Blugold to appear on the list, also as a third team safety, in 2005. Austin Crow received the honor in 2001 as an honorable mention defensive end, while Bob Schmidt also made the list in 2001 as a second team offensive tackle. Wicklund, who started all 12 games this season, tied for second on the team in tackles with 100 but led the Blugolds in solo tackles with 73. He also intercepted three passes, which he returned for a total of 53 yards, broke up five passes, and forced one fumble. He tied for sixth among Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) defenders in tackles with an average of 8.3 per game. The WIAC was well represented on the All-American list this season, with nine overall selections out of 100 spots. National Champion UW-Whitewater led all WIAC schools with six selections, while Eau Claire, La Crosse and Oshkosh each had one. Highlighting the first team list was Whitewater’s senior running back Justin Beaver, who received numerous awards this year including D3football.com Offensive Player of the Year and the Gagliardi Trophy, which is given to the top football player in NCAA Division III.
