FOOTBALL PLAYER DIES AT HOME

EAGLE RIVER - A UW-Eau Claire football player died at his home here Sunday morning. An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death.

Mike Plese, 19, was a freshman letterman on the Blugold football squad last fall. He played in seven varsity games as a defensive noseguard and ranked 17th on the team with 13 tackles. The Blugolds finished second in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 5-2 record and were 6-4 overall. Plese was to have reported for the start of football practice in Eau Claire this weekend.

A visitation is planned from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home, 304 Division Street, in Eagle River. The funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 5001 County Road G. There will be a visitation at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Friday.
