FOOTBALL EARNS FIFTEEN ALL-CONFERENCE SELECTIONS
MADISON - The UW-Eau Claire football team earned a conference-best fifteen selections to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) All-Conference teams, it was announced by conference sports information director Matt Stanek. Senior Derek Sikora (Sr.-Neillsville, WI) was named to both the first team offense as an all-purpose back and to the second team defense as a cornerback. As a returner this season, Sikora was third in the conference with an 11.2 punt return average and also averaged 20.7 yards per kick return. At cornerback, Sikora had three interceptions on the year and was fifth on the team in tackles with 59. Sikora was a first team defense selection last year. Another Blugold receiving first team honors was safety Brent Tieri (Sr.-Rockford, MN). Tieri was second in the conference for interceptions totaling four this season. Tieri also finished second on the team in tackles with 77. Tieri was a second team selection last year Five Blugolds were named to the second team offense. The entire Blugold backfield of quarterback Jesse Krzyzanowski (Sr.-Thorp, WI), running back Joe Gast (Sr.-Waconia, MN), and fullback Mike Hennessey (Sr.-Somerset, WI) were all named to the second team. Jesse Krzyzanowski finished fourth in the conference in passing and pass efficiency, as he averaged 195.9 yards per game and had an efficiency of 121.1. Joe Gast was named to the second team for the third straight year. Gast finished sixth in the conference in rushing with 753 yards. He also finished tied for fifth in total touchdowns with nine. Hennessey received honors at fullback leading the way for the Blugolds rushing attack. Other second team offensive members were offensive lineman Dan Karcz (Jr.-Pulaski, WI) and punter Mitch Schaeuble (So.-Wrightstown, WI). Schaeuble finished second in the conference in punting average, averaging 39.7 yards per punt. Schaeuble also received honorable mention for place kicker. Schaeuble connected on the second-most field goals in the conference with 10. Others receiving honorable mention on offense were lineman Drew Rekuski (Jr.-St. Anthony, MN), wide receiver Darin Krzyzanowski (Sr.-Thorp, WI), and place kicker Andy Schneider (Sr.-Green Bay/Ashwaubenon). Darin Krzyzanowski finished second in the conference with 61 receptions. Three Blugolds were named to the second team defense. Including Sikora, lineman Nate Jahn (So.-Alma Center, WI/Lincoln), and linebacker Sam Cummings (So.-Rochester, MN/John Marshall) were also named. Jahn had two sacks on the season and had five tackles for a loss. Cummings had 71 tackles this season and 10 of those were for a loss. Receiving honorable mention on defense was linebacker Dan Rogney (Jr.-Auburndale, WI). Rogney was tied for fourth in the conference with five sacks. He also had two interceptions for a total of 72 yards this season. - JR -
