WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD COMPLETES SWEEP OF POINTER LAST CHANCE MEET
STEVENS POINT, Wis. – With the men also taking the top spot, the UW-Eau Claire women’s track and field squad finished off the sweep as they topped 12 others at the UW-Stevens Point NCAA Qualifier. Eau Claire had 89.50 points to win it all while UW-Oshkosh was the runner-up at 74 points. Illinois Wesleyan University grabbed third on 61 points while UW-Stevens Point placed fourth on a 40-point performance. Monmouth College (IL) was fifth at 39 points. Eau Claire found the podium in several track events. Jamie Arentz (So.-Cashton) and Julie Meis (Jr.-Platteville) went No. 1and No. 2 in the 3,000-meter run, though they were the only two running. Their times were 11:23.23 and 11:26.50 respectively. Claudia Borlee (Sr.-Green Bay/Preble) had a 5:22.60 performance in the 1-mile run for second. Amy Bachinski (So.-Stevens Point/SPASH) finished third in the 55-meter dash on a 7.46 time. The distance medley squad took the race on an 11:58.87 mark and the 4x400-meter relay squad completed the race in 3:57.31 for third. The team did well in the field events as well. Second and third in the triple jump went to Amy Oldenburg (So.-Minocqua/Lakeland Union) and Liz Amici (Fr.-Whitewater) with efforts of 10.66 meters (34’ 11 ¾”) and 10.62 meters (34’ 10 ¼”). Alicia Schuelke (Jr.-Gilman) pulled off a 1.61-meter (5’ 3 ¼”) leap in the high jump for second. Tonya White (So.-Byron, MN) took second in the long jump with a distance of 4.97 meters (16’ 3 ¾”). Hayley Suckow (So.-Elk Mound) hit 3.45meters (11’ 3 ¼”) in the pole vault for third. The Blugolds will next compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday. The event is in Ada, Ohio.
