WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD GRAB SECOND AT WIAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

SUPERIOR, Wis. – With 137.83 points, the UW-Eau Claire women’s track and field squad took the runner-up spot at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Championships.

The top spot went to UW-La Crosse and its 192.33 points. UW-Oshkosh trailed Eau Claire at 115.5 points. Fourth went to UW-River Falls’ 74 score while UW-Stevens Point finished fifth on 51 points. UW-Platteville had a sixth-place showing with 46.5 points while UW-Whitewater scored 37.5 points. UW-Stout took eighth on 35.33 points while UW-Superior found itself in the last spot with 12 points.

Eau Claire performed well on the track. Liz Kooistra (Jr.-Lakeville, MN) won the 400-meter dash in a fieldhouse record 57.80 and pulled off a second place 25.70 200-meter dash. Laura Broner (Jr.-Madison/Memorial) also took fifth in the 400 on a 59.78 time. Eau Claire had a successful 3000-meter run, with Molly Warner (Sr.-Mosinee) taking second (10:29.35), Mary Palmer (Jr.-Anoka, MN) taking third (10:29.60) and Claudia Borlee (Sr.-Green Bay/Preble) finishing fourth (10:29.91). Elly Prunty (So.-Antigo) also placed sixth in the race on a 10:35.92. The Blugolds were fourth and fifth in the 1-mile run on times of 5:09.08 and 5:09.85. The runners were Palmer and Hannah Humbach (So.-Madison/Abundant Life). Amy Bachinski (So.-Stevens Point/SPASH) had a fourth-place showing in the 55-meter dash with a 7.38 time. Amy Oldenburg (So.-Minocqua/Lakeland Union) was sixth in the 55-meter hurdles while running an 8.82 race.

The 4x400-meter relay team won the race with a fieldhouse record-breaking 3:57.89 time while the 4x200-meter relay team finished in 1:44.79 for second

Eau Claire also found success in the field. Amy Morse (Jr.-Kaukauna) took the crown in the weight throw with a 16.59-meter performance, a facility record. Oldenburg was the runner-up in the triple jump at 11.16 meters.

Bridget Wolfe (Sr.-Arcadia) was the second-place finisher in the pentathlon on 3,091 points.

Eau Claire has one qualifier before the national championships. The UW-Stevens Point Qualifier begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
