WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD DOMINATES WHITEWATER INVITE

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s track and field team took first place out of 17 teams at the UW-Whitewater Invite today.

Eau Claire won with a score of 105, while its next closest competitor, UW-Stevens Point, finished with a score of 73. Carroll College completed the invite in third place, scoring 71.50 and Carthage College took fourth place with a score of 69.50. Rounding out the top five was UW-Platteville with a score of 63.

Liz Kooistra (Jr.-Lakeville, Minn.) again finished strong for the Blugolds, as she had a NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.08. She finished more than one second ahead of the second place finisher from Stevens Point. Last weekend at the Blugold Open, Kooistra also had a provisional qualifying time in the 800-meter run.

In the 5,000-meter run, four Blugolds were the top four finishers. Molly Warner (Sr.-Mosinee, Wis.) took first place in the event with a time of 18:32.42. Elly Prunty (So.-Antigo, Wis.) was the second place finisher with a time of 18:44.00 while Claudia Borlee (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Preble) finished third with a time of 19:00.05. Amber Hertz (Sr.-Baraboo, Wis.) completed the event in fourth place with a time of 19:06.20.

The 800-meter run also featured two Blugolds in second and third place. Hannah Humbach (So.-Madison, Wis./Abundant Life) took second, finishing less than two seconds behind the top finisher from Carroll College, with a time of 2:20.11. Kelly Palmer (So.-Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) finished second in the event with a time of 2:24.32.

The Blugolds also had a relay team take the top spot. They finished first in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:01.82.

In the field events, Tonya White (So.-Byron, Wis.) took second in the long jump with a 5.11-meter jump and Amy Morse (Jr.-Kaukauna, Wis.) took third in the weight throw with a throw of 15.29 meters.

Up next the Blugolds will head to Menomonie to compete in the Warren Bowles Open. The meet is set to begin at noon on Saturday.
