WOMEN'S TRACK CONTINUES DOMINANCE IN THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

MENOMONIE - To complete the Eau Claire sweep of the Warren Bowlus Open and finish first for the third consecutive meet, the UW-Eau Claire women's track team dominated the six other schools by winning with a 118 point margin as the team totaled 279.50 points in all. The team did not finish first in only four events.

Next closest was the home team, the UW-Stout Blue Devils, as they tallied 161.50. UW-Superior took third on 60 while Hamline University finished fourth at 52 points. Michigan Tech University rounded out the top five with a 20 point performance.

The team won 12 of 16 events and there were several Blugolds who took first in multiple events. Liz Kooistra (Fr.-Lakeville, MN) took first in the 200-meter dash on a 27.19 display and the top spot in the 400-meter dash with a 59.60 run. Paula Crossfield (Jr.-Madison/East) was the champ in the shot put with 11.82 meters and also in the weight throw on 14.41 meters. Another two-time winner was Erin Kokta (Sr.-Brookfield/East). Her 1.59 meters in the high jump and 5.08 meters in the long jump earned her firsts.

There were other notable Blugold champs today as well. Kelly Sprague (Jr.-Mankato, MN/East) had a 7.55 sprint in the 55-meter event for the top spot. Molly Warner (So.-Mosinee) outran all in the 3000-meter run in 10:26.06. Her teammate from cross country, Jane-Marie Ovanin (Sr.-Amherst), took the 5000-meter run with an 18:25.82 finish. Liz Faller (Jr.-Marinette) was the 55-meter hurdles champ with an 8.55 display. Stephanie Barnes (Jr.-Sauk City/Sauk Prairie) displayed her dominance in the pole vault with the winning 3.86 meters.

The 4x400 meter relay team performed as well as the individuals, snagging first in 4:13.94.

Eau Claire has won three meets in a row and has not been beaten by a single team yet.

The Blugolds look to continue their winning streak next Saturday when it heads to Northfield, MN for the Border Battle. The Battle begins at 11:00 a.m.
