WOMEN’S TENNIS FALLS TO UW-WHITEWATER
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s tennis team suffered their first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (WIAC) loss tonight at the hand of UW-Whitewater. The team lost 7-2 and is now 13-4 overall on the season. In conference play the Blugolds are 4-1. Eau Claire won both of its matches in singles play. Kristie Carlson (Sr.-Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View) won her match in No. 3 singles 6-1, 3-6, (10-5). Erin Welch (So.-Tomah, WI) in No. 5 singles won her match in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. Sarah Riordan (Sr.- Appleton, WI/North) in No. 1 singles and Liz Deprey (Sr.- Green Bay, WI/Notre Dame) in No.6 both were defeated by a score of 6-2, 6-0. In No. 2 Singles Gina Dahl (So.- Fort Atkinson, WI) went down to Whitewater’s Jessie Farrar 6-4, 6-7, (10-4). To round out the singles action, in No. 4 singles Brenna McCormick (So.-Greendale, WI) lost 6-4, 6-1. The Blugolds failed to fare any better in doubles play. All three tandems were defeated, but the No. 1 and No. 2 matches were close battles. Riordan and Dahl fought hard in No. 1 doubles play, but they were defeated 8-6. McCormick and Carlson also went down by a score of 8-6 in the No. 2 spot. In the No. 3 doubles match Courtney Lynne (So.-Rochester, MN/Mayo) and Kristin Neuman (Sr.-Green Bay, WI/Ashwaubenon) lost 8-1. The team will try to redeem themselves next Saturday at home against UW-La Crosse. Whitewater 7, Eau Claire 2 Singles No. 1 – Ingrid Stensvaag (WW) def.
