WOMEN’S TENNIS SPLITS A PAIR OF DUAL MEETS

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The UW-Eau Claire women’s tennis team defeated UW-Stevens Point 8-1 but dropped a meet 7-2 to Division II St. Cloud State here today.

The Blugolds are now 23-10 on the season and 12-8 in dual meets.

Erin Welch (So.-Tomah, Wis.) and Michelle Reinders (Fr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) were the only Blugolds to go undefeated in singles play today. Welch won 6-2, 6-2 against St. Cloud’s Kim Lindblom and defeated Stevens Point’s Kaylei Sorenson 6-0, 6-1 later in the day at No. 4 singles. Reinders took home a 1-6, 6-4, 13-11 victory over St. Cloud’s Samantha Boushek at No. 6 and a 6-0, 6-3 win over Stevens Point’s Emily Oxton at No. 5 singles. The wins by Reinders and Welch were the only victories for the Blugolds against St. Cloud, but Eau Claire won a total five singles matches against Stevens Point.

The Blugolds also swept the Pointers in doubles. Sarah Riordan (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./North) and Gina Dahl (So.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) picked up a 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles over Stevens Point’s Rachel Benn and Sorenson. The duo of Kristie Carlson (Sr.-Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View) and Welch won at No. 2, 8-0 over Point’s Emily Riordan and Kaitlyn King. Reinders and Kirsten Marciniak (Fr.-Ham Lake, Minn./Blaine) also won at No. 3, taking an 8-1 victory over Emily Oxton and Lauren Kluz.

Up next the Blugolds will host UW-Stout at 1 p.m. Saturday. The meet will either be played in the Ade Olson addition of the McPhee Physical Education Center of outside on the Simpson Courts.
