WOMEN’S TENNIS SPLITS ON FIRST DAY OF SPRING BREAK TRIP

ORLANDO, Fl. – Opening up its spring season, the UW-Eau Claire women’s tennis team defeated Franklin Marshall 5-4 to start the day but dropped a meet to Connecticut College 8-1 later in the evening.

On the singles side, the Blugolds picked up three victories in the first meet but were swept in the second. Gina Dahl (So.-Fort Atkinson, Wis.) won at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-1, while Michelle Reinders (Fr.-Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) also picked up a win at No. 6, 6-1, 6-2. Erin Welch (So.-Tomah, Wis.) lost in the first set 6-1 at No. 4, but won the next two, 6-4, 6-3 to take the overall victory.

In doubles, Eau Claire won two over Franklin Marshall but could only find its way to one victory against Connecticut. Dahl and Sarah Riordan (Sr.-Appleton, Wis./North) were victorious at No. 1 doubles against Franklin Marshall 8-4, and the duo of Kristie Carlson (Sr.-Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View) and Welch were undefeated on the day in the No. 2 spot, winning 9-8 against Franklin Marshall and 8-5 against Connecticut.

The Blugolds will be back on the court tomorrow to take on Illinois Wesleyan in Orlando.
