WOMEN'S TENNIS SET TO OPEN SEASON AT HOME

EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team will open the 2006 season by hosting both St. Norbert College and Edgewood College this Saturday at the Simpson Courts.

UW-Stout will also participate as they will also face Edgewood and St. Norbert.

The Blugolds return seven letterwinners from last year's squad that went 15-11 and finished third in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). Some key returnees include Kristie Carlson (Jr.-Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View) and Liz Deprey (Jr.-Green Bay/Notre Dame) who each won over 10 singles matches last season. Deprey was named the team's Most Valuable Singles Player last season.

Sarah Riordan (Jr.-Appleton, WI/North) returns after not playing last fall because she was studying abroad. Riordan had 10 singles in the 2004-05 season. Also returning, is senior Laura Geissler (Sr.-Coon Rapids, MN) who won a total of 15 doubles matches last season and was named the team's Most Valuable Doubles Player.

The Blugolds first opponent on Saturday will be St. Norbert College. St. Norbert finished with a 10-2 overall record last season after going 6-5 the year before. The Blugolds second opponent Edgewood College went 4-8 last year, but finished third in the Lake Michigan Conference (LMC) Championships.

The Blugolds will face St. Norbert at 11:00 a.m. and then will face Edgewood College at 3:00 p.m. All of the action will take place this Saturday at the Simpson Courts behind the McPhee Physical Education Center.
