WOMEN'S TENNIS TIED FOR SECOND AFTER FIRST DAY
MADISON - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team is tied for second with UW-Whitewater after the doubles portion of the WIAC Tennis Championships today in Madison. At No.1 doubles Katie Kuzma (Sr.-Buffalo, MN) and Laura Geissler (Jr.-Coon Rapids, MN) took second losing to UW-La Crosse 8-2 in the championship. Kuzma and Geissler won their first round match easily over River Falls 8-2 and then defeated the No.2 seeded UW-Whitewater team by a score of 8-4. The No.2 doubles team of Kristie Carlson (So.-Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View) and Molly Hunt (Jr.-Owatonna, MN) also took second losing in a close match to La Crosse 8-6. Carlson and Hunt defeated River Falls in the first round 8-5. They then defeated Whitewater 8-4. The team of Liz Deprey (So.-Green Bay/Notre Dame) and Kristin Neuman (So.-Green Bay/Ashwaubenon) took third at No.3 doubles. Deprey and Neuman won their first round match over River Falls by a score of 8-2. They then lost their second round match to Whitewater by a score of 8-3. However, in the third place match Deprey and Neuman defeated UW-Oshkosh 8-3 to take third. La Crosse is in first place with 21 points after sweeping all of the doubles championships. The Blugolds are tied with Whitewater at 17 points. UW-Stout is third with nine points. Then Oshkosh with eight, River Falls with seven, and UW-Stevens Point with six.
