WOMEN'S TENNIS TOPS WINONA STATE

WINONA, MN - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team used a sweep in doubles in defeating Winona State 7-2 here today at the St. T's Tennis and Sport complex.

The number one doubles team of Alison Hover (Sr.-St. Cloud, MN/Tech) and Jenny Stafford (Jr.-Cross Plains/Middleton) got the doubles teams off on the right foot winning 8-4. The number two doubles team of Megan Tauer (Sr.-Stillwater, MN) and Molly Cadwell (Jr.-Fridley, MN) followed suit in winning 8-1. At three doubles the tandem of Tara Anderson (So.-Litchfield, MN) and Lindsay Lee (So.-Eau Claire/Memorial) won 8-6.

In singles action, the Blugolds won four of six matches with Hover winning at number one singles 6-4, 6-3. Number six single Annie Krueger (Fr.-Reedsburg) also won in straight sets 6-2, 6-4.

At three and five singles Eau Claire needed to go to a 10-game pro set in order to determine the winner. Anderson lost the first set 6-4 at three singles but stormed back to win the second 6-2 and the tiebreaker 10-6.

Number five singles Katie Steffes (Fr.-St. Joseph, MN/Apollo) also overcame a first set loss to win. After losing the first set 6-3 she came back to win the second 6-4 and the tiebreaker 10-8.

The Blugolds will be in action again when they travel down to Savannah, Georgia to play the Savannah College of Art and Design Monday, March 17.

#5 - Katie Steffes (EC) defeated Jennifer Wunsch (WS) 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.
#6 - Annie Krueger (EC) defeated Katie Katterheinrich (WS) 6-2, 6-4.

Doubles
#1 - Hover/Stafford (EC) defeated Darveaux/Schenck (WS) 8-4.
#2 - Tauer/Cadwell (EC) defeated Bruggeman/Newbauer (WS) 8-1.
#3 - Anderson/Lee (EC) defeated Wunsch/Katterheinrich (WS) 8-6.
