WRESTLERS COMPETE IN ST. CLOUD OPEN

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team competed in the St. Cloud Open today in St. Cloud, Minn. The event was hosted by St. Cloud State University.

Joey Miller (Sr.-Lake Tomahawk, WI) had the top Blugold finish. Miller wrestled in the 174 weight class and finished in second place. Miller had four victories along the way. Miller had a bye in the first round, but then wrestled to a major decision against Derek Skala 12-3. Miller then went on to face Greg Frank and won by decision 8-2. Miller wrestled in the championship match against Kaleb Young. Miller was defeated by decision 5-2.

Josh Holforty (Jr.-Bloomington, MN/Kennedy) was the other Blugold that placed. Holforty finished in third place with three victories. Holforty started the day against Bobby Ross and pinned him. Holforty then went on to wrestle teammate David Heser and got the decision 4-0. In the match to go to the championship match, Holforty lost by decision 3-1 to Nick Wilkes. Holforty rebounded in the third place match against Tony Newman. Holforty won by decision 6-5. Holforty has the best record on the season for the Blugolds at 10-2.

Next up for the Blugolds is a dual against Lawrence in Appleton, Wisc. on Tuesday, December 11. The action starts at 7 p.m.
