WRESTLERS WIN FIRST MEET AGAINST ITASCA

GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. – The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team got its first win of the season against Itasca Community College 26-16 last night.

The Blugolds got six wins out of the nine weight classes competiting. Andy Miller (Jr.-Appleton, WI/North) got a pin against his opponent in the 133 weight class. This was the only pin of the night, and Miller’s third of the season. Miller’s record is now 4-5. Andy Johnston (So.-St. Cloud, MN/St. Cloud Tech) won by technical fall against Ted Wilczek, by the score of 22-6. Johnston wrestled at the 149 weight class.

Three Blugolds won by decision. Matt Sisbach (So.-Viroqua, WI) beat Josh Groshong at 125 pounds. The score in that match was 12-7. Jon Ames (So.-Genoa, WI/Viroqua) squeaked out a victory against Zac Evans 4-3 at the 157 weight class. Josh Holforty (Jr.-Bloomington, MN/Kennedy) was the other Blugold with a decision victory. Holforty won 9-3 in the 197 weight class. Holforty only has one loss on the season and won the 197 bracket in the Augsburg Invite.

Up next for the Blugolds is the St. Cloud Open on Saturday, December 8. The action starts at 9 a.m. in St. Cloud.
