WRESTLING TEAM RETURNS 14 LETTERWINNERS

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire 2007-08 wrestling team includes 14 letterwinners on its squad. Last year the Blugolds finished with an overall record of 26-20 and went 4-2 in WIAC dual meets. The 2006-07 team finished fourth at the WIAC Championships. The Blugolds have expanded their roster from 18 to 30 this season.

Leading the way for the Blugolds is Andy Miller (Jr.-Appleton, WI/North). Miller finished with a 27-12 record and finished second in the 133 pound category at the WIAC Championships. Miller also finished third on the team in pins with six.

Joey Miller (Sr.-Lake Tomahawk, WI) is also returning for the Blugolds. Miller ended the season last year with a 23-13 record and finished fifth in the 174 pound category at the WIAC Championships. Miller also finished with three pins last season, which was tied for seventh on the team.

Ted Sikowski (Sr.-Appleton, WI/West) returns for his senior season and is the only three year letterwinner on the team. Other two- year letterwinners include Carl Bamlet (Sr.-Hayfield, WI), Jon Erickson (Jr.-Jim Falls, WI), Josh Holforty (Jr.-Bloomington, MN/Kennedy), Josh Kasuboski (Jr.-Wautoma, WI), and Patrick Senzig (Jr.-Lyndon Station, WI/Mauston). Andy Johnston (So.-St. Cloud, MN), John Berlin (So.-Shell Lake, WI), Mike Walker (So.-Shorewood, WI), and Robbie Zube (Jr.-Viroqua, WI) return as first-year letterwinners.

John Berlin was second on the team last year in pins with 8, and Patrick Senzig had the fastest pin last season in 36 seconds.

The 2007-08 team has 16 newcomers. Among these are five freshmen, who include Thad Betzold (Fr.-Deer Park, WI), Zach Haas (Fr.-Oconomowoc, WI), Brett Jensen (Fr.-Barron, WI), Ross Lefebvre (Fr.-Otsego, MN), and Greg Sonnentag (Fr.-Cadott, WI).

The Blugold wrestling team opens the season this Saturday at the Lakeland Duals in Sheboygan. The event starts at 9 a.m.
