WRESTLING FINISHES REGULAR SEASON WITH TWO HOME MEETS

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The UW-Eau Claire wrestling team will face two more Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opponents this week before heading to the WIAC Championships next weekend.

The Blugolds enter this week with a 3-1 conference dual meet record, after losing their first WIAC dual meet to UW-Whitewater on Saturday.

On Tuesday, the Blugolds will take on the UW-La Crosse Eagles, who have not dropped a conference contest yet this year. The Eagles are 5-0 on the season and are ranked third in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) top 30 poll.

The Blugolds will then host UW-Stevens Point on Saturday. UW-Stevens Point is ranked eighth in the NWCA top 30 poll and is 4-1 in conference dual meet action. Stevens Point will travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota to take on Augsburg College on Friday before coming to Eau Claire.

Josh Holforty (Jr.-Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy) will look to continue his seven-match winning streak at 197 pounds. He is currently 26-5 on the season and has not lost since January 20. On Tuesday he will face La Crosse’s Tim Winker, who is 12-3 this year.

Nick Hoeft (Sr.-Merrill, Wis.), who came up big for the Blugolds last week at heavyweight, will look to continue his winning ways. Last week his major decision victory lifted the Blugolds to a 23-22 victory over St. Olaf. He also defeated a ranked UW-Whitewater opponent on Saturday.

Andy Johnston (So.-St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech HS) has also performed well for the Blugolds lately, going 14-3 since January 4. He will wrestle at 149 pounds, facing La Crosse’s Matt Mauseth, who is 16-6 overall, on Tuesday.

The meet on Tuesday is set to begin at 7 p.m. while the Blugolds will face Stevens Point on Saturday at 1 p.m. Tuesday's meet will take place in the McPhee Physical Education Center while Saturday's will be held in the Ade Olson Addition.
