UW-EAU CLAIRE'S SIKORA NAMED WIAC WRESTLER OF THE YEAR

MADISON - University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Derek Sikora has been named the 2006 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Wrestler of the Year based on voting completed by the league coaches.

Derek SikoraSikora, a 165-pound senior from Neillsville, Wis., captured the first-ever individual wrestling national title in school history at the NCAA Division III Championships last weekend in Ewing, N.J. His victories at nationals came against individuals that finished second, third, fourth and fifth in his weight class.

Sikora is a three-time All-American, adding a fifth-place finish a year ago and a third-place standing in 2004. He ended his career winning his final 18 matches and completed his senior season with a 31-2 record.

He also secured conference championships in 2006 and 2004, while finishing second at the league meet in 2005 and 2003. Sikora compiled a 111-23 record during his four years with the Blugolds.
