LAKE FOREST TAKES DOWN WOMEN'S HOCKEY IN EXTRA PERIOD
EAU CLAIRE - In the first overtime game for either team, Lake Forest defeated the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team 3-2 at Hobbs Ice Center today. After a scoreless opening period for both teams, Eau Claire got on the board first in the second. Laura Brackey (Sr.-Oakdale, MN/Tartan) scored an evenhanded goal on an assist from Margaret Campbell (Fr.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) at 4:05. However, the Foresters tied it up on a Blugold power-play as they made it 1-1 with the shorthanded goal. This score came 5:28 into the period. At 12:41 the Foresters scored on an advantage of their own to go ahead. In the third Martina Korinek (Jr.-White Bear Lake, MN) made an even-handed score at 7:38 off an assist from Tara Hayner (Jr.-Stillwater, MN) to tie it up. Despite a combined 29 shots on goal in the third, neither team failed to score again, forcing added play. Lake Forest won it in overtime before Eau Claire could even get a shot on goal. The Foresters took the victory 2:31 into the period on a power-play. Jill Arendt (So.-Plymouth, MN/Wayzata) made 39 saves on 42 shots in the net. The Blugolds put up 34 shots. Eau Claire had six power-plays and failed to take advantage of any while Lake Forest went two for seven. The Foresters had previously given up two goals the entire season in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play. The team is now 2-6-0 on the season and 0-3-0 in the NCHA after today.
