SCHULTZ NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN

WALTHAM, MA - UW-Eau Claire women's hockey forward Amanda Schultz (Sr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Women's At-Large College Division third team, it was announced today by Bentley (MA) College Sports Information Director Dick Lipe.

Schultz is the 21st individual selected to be an Academic All-American. In all UW-Eau Claire has honored 27 Academic All-Americans and at least one Academic All-American in each of the past seven years.

Schultz, a Special Education major carrying a 3.99 grade-point average, is a two-time member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) District V Women's At-Large team. Schultz was named the 2006 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Scholar-Athlete and has been a member of both the NCHA All-Academic Team and the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Scholastic Honor Roll. Schultz has received the team Student-Athlete award in each of the last three season.

At UW-Eau Claire Schultz is a member of the Dean's List, the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC), the Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC) and the Reading Partners Program.

Athletically, Schultz is a three-time honorable mention All-NCHA selection and three-time team captain. Schultz was the team co-MVP in 2002-03 earning team Rookie of the Year honors that same season. Schultz received the team Blugold award this past season.

The women's at-large program for Academic All-America includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, golf, gymnastics, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis, and water polo.

The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA (the College Sports Information Directors of America), a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.

To be eligible, a student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
