SCHULTZ NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

For the third year in a row, UW-Eau Claire women's hockey player Amanda Schultz (Sr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District At-Large team. She is now a candidate for Academic All-American consideration along with the first team members from seven other districts.

Schultz was one of two Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) athletes named to the 11-person, District 5 College Division First Team. The College Division encompasses all NAIA, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III schools and District 5 encompasses the states of Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota. The at-large team includes athletes in the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo.

Schultz owns a 3.98 cumulative GPA as a special education major. She missed eight games this season with a knee injury and that absence cost her a chance to lead the Blugold hockey team in scoring for four consecutive seasons. She still scored 17 points (12 goals, 5 assists) in 17 games. The team finished 7-12-6 for the season but was 5-6-5 after she returned from her injury. In 94 career games, she scored 75 points (50 goals, 25 assists). She was named the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Scholar-Athlete for the 2005-06 season. During her Blugold career, she earned these team awards: Rookie of the Year, co-MVP, Student-Athlete award three times and Blugold Award.
