WOMEN'S HOCKEY FALLS TO RIVER FALLS

EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team, looking for its first ever win against UW-River Falls, fell to the Falcons 3-1 here tonight at Hobbs Ice Arena.

The Blugolds fall to 2-4-2 overall and 0-3-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association action while the Falcons improve to 6-4-0 for the season and 3-2-0 in NCHA play.

River Falls got on the board early as they scored just 2:25 into the first period on a Kelly Hurley power play goal to take a 1-0 lead. The score remained the same for most of the first period until the Falcons scored with just 24 seconds remaining to take a 2-0 lead.

After a second period goal which put the Falcons on top 3-0, the Blugolds responded in the third period when Kristi Hawkinson (Jr.-Forest Lake, MN) took a pass from Amanda Schultz (So.-Stevens Point/SPASH) and shot a bouncing puck that went between the Falcon goalie's legs to make the score 3-1. The Blugolds had a few good scoring opportunities in the last seven minutes of the game but were unable to get the puck in the net as they fell to the Falcons.

Eau Claire will try again for its first ever win against River Falls when they face off with the Falcons tomorrow night at 7:05 at Hobbs Ice Arena.
