WOMEN BLANK LAKE FOREST, SET SCHOOL RECORD FOR WINS
EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team earned its fourth shutout of the season, topping Northern Collegiate Hockey Association opponent Lake Forest (IL) 3-0 here tonight at Hobbs Ice Arena to earn its record-setting ninth win of the season.
Eau Claire broke last season's single-season win record of eight wins to improve to 9-13-2 overall and 4-11-0 in the NCHA while the Foresters fall to 2-21-1 for the season and remaining winless in conference play with a 0-15-0 record.
Eau Claire scored the game-winner in the first period when Laura Suppes (Fr.-Falcon Heights, MN) put one past Forester goalie Sally Bevis with 4:42 remaining. Connie Cameron (Sr.-Chippewa Falls) assisted the goal.
The game remained 1-0 until five minutes into the third period when Laura Brackey (So.-Oakdale, MN) scored to give the Blugolds some breathing room. Christa Hubert (Jr.-Blaine, MN) tallied a third Eau Claire goal halfway through the third period to finish the scoring at 3-0.
Sara Steinhoff (So.-West St. Paul, MN/Henry Sibley) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Blugolds, making 15 saves for the victory.
The Blugolds used a 27-15 shot advantage to earn the win. The game saw just two penalties, both by Eau Claire.
