WOMEN'S HOCKEY FACES OFF WITH SIXTH-RANKED POINTERS
EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team will look for its first ever win against UW-Stevens Point this weekend when the Blugolds will host the sixth-ranked Pointers on Friday and Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Arena.
The Blugolds carry an overall record of 7-10-2 into the weekend and a mark of 2-8-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association, good for fourth place in the conference with four points. Stevens Point is the current leader in the NCHA with 19 points, posting a 9-2-1 record in conference play, including two victories earlier this season over the Blugolds in Stevens Point. The Pointers carry a 13-4-4 overall record into the weekend.
Eau Claire has never defeated the Pointers in the brief history of the Eau Claire women's hockey program, posting an all-time record of 0-15-0 in four seasons. The Blugolds were unable to get on the board against Stevens Point in a pair of contests earlier this season, falling 6-0 and 3-0 in November.
Eau Claire is also looking to bounce back from a pair of losses to River Falls last weekend which snapped a three-game Blugold win streak. Amanda Schultz (So.-Stevens Point/SPASH) leads the Blugolds in both goals and points, totaling 14 points on eight goals and six assists. She totaled an assist in each of last weekend's 4-1 and 5-2 losses to River Falls.
The Pointers carry a five game unbeaten streak into the weekend, after topping Lake Forest in two games by a combined score of 9-0. Jackie Schmitt leads the Pointers in goals and is fifth in the NCHA in the category with 10 goals on the season. Ann Ninnemann leads the team in points with 20 while Kim Lunneborg sits one back at 19, placing them sixth and seventh in the conference.
All fans in attendance on Friday will be treated to a special intermission show, as members of the UW-Eau Claire football team will battle members of the Eau Claire women's rugby team in a friendly game of rugby. There will also be activities at the intermissions on Saturday for fans in attendance.
Normal admission prices will be charged for both contests with all Eau Claire students earning free admission with valid student identification.
