WOMEN'S HOCKEY BLANKS LAKE FOREST
LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team scored four times in the second period and allowed only seven shots on goal in shutting out Lake Forest College 5-0 here today at Alumni Memorial Rink.
After a scoreless first period, the Blugolds struck first 5:59 into the second period when Martina Korinek (Fr.-White Bear Lake, MN) converted on passes from Tara Hayner (Fr.-Stillwater, MN) and Claire Parda (So.-Waukesha).
Eau Claire then added to their lead with three goals in four minutes. Hayner and Crystal Wasem (So.-Chaska, MN) each scored off passes from Connie Cameron (Sr.-Chippewa Falls) to put the Blugolds up 3-0. Karen Hebert (Fr.-Lakeville, MN/Academy of Holy Angels) would add an unassisted goal to give Eau Claire a 4-0 lead going into the final period.
Parda scored her second point of the game when she scored off a Wasem pass to give the game its final margin with 14:51 remaining.
Sara Steinhoff (So.-West St. Paul, MN/Henry Sibley) played 40 minutes in goal to earn the win while Natalie Fish (Fr.-Penticton, BC) played 20 scoreless minutes in goal.
The Blugolds outshot the Foresters 32-7 and converted on two out of five power plays. Eau Claire committed two penalties for four minutes while Lake Forest committed five penalties for ten minutes.
Eau Claire improves to 5-8-2 overall and 1-6 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play while Lake Forest falls to 2-13-1 overall and 0-7 in NCHA play.
The Blugolds will face off against the Foresters again tomorrow night. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
