WOMEN’S GOLF DROPS TO 14TH AT DIVISION III CHAMPIONSHIP

WAVERLY, Iowa – While the UW-Eau Claire women’s golf team had only one stroke more on the second day of the 2008 NCAA Division III Championships, it dropped three places from yesterday to end up in 14th place at Centennial Oaks Golf Club in Waverly, Iowa.

Methodist University (N.C.) remained at the top of the team leader board with 616 strokes through two rounds, 13 ahead of the second place team, Southwestern University (Texas), which shot 320 for a two-day total of 629. DePauw University (Ind.) held on to third place, also shooting 320 on day two for a total of 635. Eau Claire shot 333 on day one and came back with 334 today for a combined total of 667.

Methodist’s Susan Martin also moved up to first place today, having the day’s best round, an even 72 for a two-day total of 146. Stephanie Mingos of Rhodes College (Tenn.), who was in first after day one, shot 76 today for 147 overall to drop to second.

Meghan Sobotta (Sr.-Arcadia, Wis.) golfed consistently, shooting 78 each of the first two days, for a total of 156. She also stayed tied for 14th place with the finish. Katie Swift (Fr.-Onalaska, Wis.) improved by eight strokes to take Eau Claire’s second best total of the day (82) for an overall count of 172. She moved up 13 places, in a tie for 82nd. Torie Ives (So.-Osseo, Wis./Osseo-Fairchild) shot an 86 today for 166 overall and is tied for 54th. Bri Obermueller (So.-River Falls, Wis.) and Sarah Hansen (Sr.-Bangor, Wis.) had totals of 88 on day two for totals of 173 (tied for 87th) and 178 (tied for 94th), respectively.

The Blugolds will begin teeing off tomorrow morning at 8:20 at Centennial Oaks Golf Club for day three of the championships.
