WOMEN’S GOLF CONCLUDES SEASON WITH A THIRD PLACE FINISH AT SPRING INVITE
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – After poor weather conditions forced day one of the UW-Eau Claire Spring Invite to be canceled, the tournament was adjusted to a one-round format. That one round was played on Sunday at Wild Ridge Golf Course. In the only day of play, St. Thomas University (Minn.) ran away from the field shooting a 326 as a team while they ruined the Blugolds chances at a defense of their first place finish last spring. Seven strokes behind St. Thomas was UW-Stevens Point with a total score of 335. To round out the top three, the UW-Eau Claire women’s team shot a 340. Carleton College (Minn.), UW-Superior, and UW-Stout came in at the bottom of the six team field.
After finishing in a tie for fourth last year in the UW-Eau Claire Spring Invite, Meghan Sobotta (Sr.-Arcadia, Wis.) won the shortened tournament this year with a round of 76. Sobotta’s round of 76 was the result of a 36 on the front nine and a 40 on the back nine. Sobotta outshot Michelle Pascavis of UW-Stevens Point by two strokes to claim the individual title. Torie Ives (So.-Osseo, WI/Osseo-Fairchild) turned in the second best round of any Blugold shooting an 84 while earning a ninth place tie. Brianna Obermueller (So.-River Falls, WI) shot an 86 on her way to a 13th place tie. Sarah Hansen (Sr.-Bangor, WI) and Katie Swift (Fr.-Onalaska, WI) were the other Blugolds to compete this weekend. Hansen shot a 94 while her teammate Swift shot a 98. The UW-Eau Claire Spring Invite was the Blugolds' last regular season event of the spring season. Results - TT -
