WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY ANNOUNCES TEAM AWARD WINNERS

EAU CLAIRE, Wisc.– The UW-Eau Claire women’s cross country coach, Dan Schwamberger, announced team award winners for the 2007 season.

The Most Valuable Runner Award went to Beth Lutz (Jr.-Eau Claire, WI/Memorial). Lutz earned All-American honors at the NCAA Division III National Cross Country Meet this year. Lutz also garnered All-Midwest Region by helping the Blugolds qualify for the national meet. Lutz was a big runner all year for the Blugolds, and helped considerably with winning the WIAC Championships. Lutz earned 2nd Team All Conference honors at the WIAC Championships.

Most Improved went to Mary Palmer (Jr.-Anoka, MN). Palmer was also one of the top Blugold runners all year. She finished in 43rd place at the national meet. Palmer garnered All-Midwest Region honors and 1st Team All Conference honors.

The Blugold Award went to Bridget Bocher (Sr.-Watertown, WI). Bocher is a repeat award winner, also winning the award last year as a junior. The Blugold Award is presented to “an all-around committed scholar-athlete and teammate.”

The Most Valuable Freshmen Award went to Molly Woodford (Fr.-Waukesha, WI/South). Woodford finished 41st in the WIAC Championships and 93rd in the St. Olaf Invite.

Bocher, Claudia Borlee (Sr.-Green Bay, WI/Preble), Amber Hertz (Sr.-Baraboo, WI), and Molly Warner (Sr.-Mosinee, WI) were presented with the Four Year Letter Award.

The Blugolds finished the season with an overall record of 166-24, and finished first in the WIAC Championships. The Blugolds also finished second at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional, and qualified for the NCAA Division III National Meet. The Blugolds finished eighth out of 32, the highest finish since the 1997-1998 season.
