SCHWAMBERGER NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Following the conclusion of the 2007 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Cross Country Championship last Saturday, UW-Eau Claire women’s head cross country coach Dan Schwamberger was named Coach of the Year.

Schwamberger is in his first season with the Blugolds and led the team to its first conference title since 1985. While he is very happy with the recognition, he credits last year’s coach Brian Falk with laying the foundation for the success this season.

“As the first year cross country coach I have been very fortunate to inherit a great group of hardworking, talented and well-coached distance women,” said coach Schwamberger. “Coach Brian Falk did a great job setting the stage for this season last year, and much of this year’s success can be attributed to him.”

Schwamberger also credited the athletes with rallying around each other to make the team the best it could be.

“Whenever someone in our top five struggled, there has always been someone else who has stepped up and filled in the gap,” said Schwamberger.

The Blugolds and coach Schwamberger will be back on the course November 10, when they travel back to Winneconne, Wis. for the NCAA Regionals, hosted by UW-Oshkosh.
