Women's Basketball Assistant Coach - Kristi Channing

Kristi Channing enters her third season as an assistant coach for the UW-Eau Claire women’s basketball team.

Channing is a graduate of UW-Eau Claire, receiving her Bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2003. She also played four seasons of basketball for the Blugolds and was a senior and team MVP on the 2002-03 team that posted a 32-2 overall record and third place finish at the NCAA Division III post-season tournament.

Channing finished her career tied for eighth on the Blugolds’ all-time scoring leaders list with 1,195 points in 112 games. She is also 21st on the all-time career rebounds list with 468 and 24th on the all-time career assists list with 128.

During Channing’s final season with the Blugolds, she led the team with 535 points. Only three other Blugolds have scored more points in a single season. That season she would also attempt 192 free throws and make 150, both of which lead the Blugolds all-time for a season. Channing led the team in scoring during the 2001-02 season, with 448 and also scored 35 points in one game, tied for second most all-time in a single game.

For her contributions during the 2002-03 season, Channing was named to the NCAA Division III Kodak All-America Team and received recognition as a D3hoops.com Second Team selection. She also received All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) honors for the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons and was the WIAC’s Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete for the 2002-03 season.

Following her career as a Blugold, Channing played in basketball tours in Thailand, China and for Athletes in Action in the United States. She also played two seasons professionally in Perth, Australia (2005 and 2006). She and her team, the Lakeside Lightning, won the championship game with Channing being named the Finals MVP.

A Fall Creek, Wisconsin native, Channing is currently a full-time graduate student at UW-Stout and plans to graduate in August 2008 from the Mental Health Counseling program.
