WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TO TAKE ON ST. CLOUD

EAU CLAIRE, Wis.– The UW-Eau Claire women’s basketball team will take on St. Cloud State University on Wednesday, November 28. Last year the Blugolds lost to St. Cloud 71-55. St. Cloud got off to a great start in that game scoring the first 18 points of the game. It was the Blugolds third loss of the season.

St. Cloud is coming in with a 2-3 record. They have losses to Northwood University, MSU-Moorhead, and Michigan Tech. St. Cloud did defeat Northern Michigan and last year’s WIAC Champion UW-Stout. St. Cloud beat UW-Stout 87-72. Last year St. Cloud finished with a 17-11 record and fourth in the North Central Conference. In the all-time series versus St. Cloud, the Blugolds are 1-9.

Four St. Cloud players average over 10 points per game. The Huskies are led by Anna Cashman, who is averaging 14.6 points per game. Kayla Rengel averages 13.6, and Rachel Booth averages 12.2 points per game. Katie Tacheny has 17 steals on the season, averages 11.6 points per game, and leads the team in assists with 18. Krystal Scott has 10 steals on the season. St. Cloud’s leading rebounder is Rengel with 5.6 rebounds per game. Cashman boasts a .581 field goal percentage and a .607 three-point percentage. Cashman has taken 28 threes this season, while making 17 of them. St. Cloud is coached by Dr. Lori Ulferts, and she is in her 14th season with a 208-161 record.

The Blugolds are coming off a loss to the University of Chicago in the Thanksgiving Showcase. This loss snapped the Blugolds’ home court win streak at 18 in the championship game. The Blugolds are now 3-1 on the season. Heidi Arceszewski (Jr.-Thorp, WI) leads the Blugolds with 12.3 points per game average. Michelle Burns (Sr.-Eau Claire, WI/North) is right behind her averaging 12.0 points per game. Heather Witt (Jr.-Kendall, WI/Royall) is averaging 10.3 points per game as well. Amanda Zenner (Medford, WI) leads the team with 18 rebounds on the season. Zenner and Arceszewski lead the team in assists with 11. Witt is leading in steals with 12 and blocks with three.

The action starts at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28 at Zorn Arena. It is also Student Night, with prizes offered to UW-Eau Claire Students.
